Manju Thapa

About Me:

Ms. Manju Thapa- a women rights activist of Nepal, is working in the field of women and media since last 16 years. Currently I am the co-editor of Asmita bi-monthly magazine which is the foremost and only feminist magazine in the country. Duruig last one and half decade, I have been involved in writing and editing hundreds of articles on various women related issues for Asmita magazine, Kantipur National Daily, Rajdhani National Daily, Samaya Weekly and other newspapers/ magazines. I have also produced radio magazines and programs on women related issues. I was the coordinator and key producer of Radio magazine Shakti and Samashanti which broadcast on numbers of FM radios like Sagarmath FM, Kalika FM, Himchuli FM, Bageswaru FM from different cities of the country. My interest is also to produce documentries. I have produced and directed the short video entitled Positive Counter Attack. I also worked as an assistant director to produce other documentries related to human trafficking, rape of women during the conflict period, war widows etc. For the first time in the country, I started to monitor mainstream media from gender perspective and suggest them for the alternatives. This relentless effort of media monitoring helped me to develop my identity as a media critic too.

Before entering into the media sector, I was the student activist raising voice against the then autocracy in the country.
