Hi. I am Rama Sivaram. You can call me just Rama. Phonetically, the first a is short and the second a is long and gives me the identity of being a she! And I simply love it, because of the complex mix of different quotients from enough IQ to abundant EQ and SQ to be complete selves. Now you can understand my journal title and subtitle.
Trained in humanities I am virtually exposed to the sacred and profane, Adam and Eve, the serpent sweetened apple, the same apple which fell on Newton’s curly head- defining gravity and the physics of the third law of motion for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, social constructs, demons and femme fatale, quantity versus quality and the world toppling over itself with six billion + and still going on as the world clock continues to tick and statistics, those formidable numbers keep pouring out of dot matrix printers.
But I am not virtual; I am real and my experiences professional and personal. My own tryst with breast cancer and as direct witness to losing family members and women to it, I kept my fairytales, facts and fiction for passive playtime and have become an active player in all those things I witnessed firsthand and raise my voice. Providentially, I got involved with cancer advocacy, especially breast cancer 5 years back after my own diagnosis in 2004. I decided to commit myself to the cause.
Having gone through it all, the need to for advocacy, community education and working for a cause- the fight against cancer, has been overwhelming. My day to day meeting with cancer has made me take up for Community Breast Health and Cancer Education, helping organizing support groups, lymphedema clinic, breast cancer recovery programs, Counseling and helping raise a cadre of volunteers for cancer awareness and Anti Tobacco programs. Most important of all is advocating for equitable, affordable, accessible, available cancer and health care delivery from prevention to palliation and quality of life.
