Gabriele Ross
I work as Coordinator for the Education of Homeless Students and as Drug and Alcohol Counselor in a school district. Prior to that I worked in battered women’s shelters. I came to the US in the 80s as a volunteer for Action Reconciliation/Services for Peace, a German anti-fascist organization founded by survivors of the Nazi regime. In that capacity I worked as community organizer in Cleveland, OH. Excluded from higher education by a track school system and the dynamics of a working class family, I became a returning student and obtained my Master’s Degree in Conflict Resolution. Building on an undergraduate Certificate in Middle East Studies, I wrote my thesis on effective ways of responding to the enmification of Muslims and/or people from the "Middle East" and I have developed curricula on related topics. I volunteer as a programmer with KBOO 90.7 FM Community Radio and with several Iranian and immigrant rights organizations in Portland, OR, where I live by choice. I love to read, garden, bike and run and I have no patience for wasting the short time we are given.
