About Me:

My name is Mrs Norma Adhiambo, Kenyan woman aged 32 years old. I am the Co founder and Manager of the Lifewater Academy -- an education institution based in Ranjira area of Kisumu district of the republic of kenya. For as long as I can remember, it has been my dream to support orphans within our midst. As a child, I learned from the example of my parents who demonstrated the importance of supporting orphans and helping others in numerous ways. My parents were teachers at a local primary primary school (kidika) in a remote viallage of Kadem in nyanza province, kenya. I grew up dreaming of being a teacher and working with orphans (especially the girls).

I have been a volunteer worker since my time in teachers training college . I started with women groups at GWAKO -(Groups of women in water & agriculture -Kochieng) where i was supporting the development of safe drinking water for womens and helping girls to go to school. This work made me get alot of exposure and meeting several women who are working for the betterment of other women and girl child. I travelled in Ethiopia through funding support of Lifewater international and i got opportunity to work on health and hygiene issues. One of my keen mentor and dear friend Paola Gianturco has publish a book that depicts my work on the issues of water as it affects women. The book can downloaded at the site

Today after several years of prayers, God made it possible for us to start Lifewater Academy to help orphans and other needy children get education. The Academy is registered with Kenya goverment as a public school and currently enrolls 168 pupils of ages 5- 12 in grades {Nursery classes and primary grades 1 -4}.

Because of the many needs of these kids that my husband and i resources cannot meet it has been my prayer to get other volunteers (mothers) whose hearts can reach to the orphans and help me build this project.

My Passions:
Loving the orphans
My Challenges:
Providing education materials and facilities for the orphans
My Vision for the Future:
Sharing love to kids and help them realize their full potential, that achieving education is key to girl child or women empowerment to end poverty cycles
My Areas of Expertise:
Education and social work (water)
My Languages:
English, Swahili
