I am the co founder of girl impact youth empowerment inc (www.girlimpact.org) which is a non profit that empowers girls to champion each other in their own communities as well as globally. I recently returned from a trip where we took 11 girls from marginalized communities in Toronto to Kenya where they attended a girls boarding school called Limuru girls school. From there we travelled to Tanzania to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro...all to prove that "this is what a girl can do!".
Girl !mpact is a curriculum to give girls the life skills that they need to make change in their lives based on 4 pillars: 1) Health and Wellness, 2) Advocacy and Women's Rights, 3) Communications and Presentation, and 4) Life Skills including personal finance, goal setting, vision boarding, etc. The entire organization is volunteer lead and run.
Each girl has a mentor to provide positive female role model influence. Collectively, the girls and their mentors have raised $50,000 to send girls to secondary school in Kenya. It is quite an accomplishment.
