About Me:

I just graduated with a BA in sociology and will be starting my MA this September. I grew up in Zambia, have spent the last 5 years in Egypt. and will soon be moving to Holland. I am interested in issues to do with women, in particular women and Islam and how the Qur'an has been manipulated over time to oppress women and deny them their rights. I am also interested in issues of colonialism, post-colonialism and orientalism. In terms of geographical areas I am interested in the Middle East, Iran, Southern Africa, and Western Europe. I love to connect with new people in different places and am looking forward to this experience with world pulse.
Other things I'm into include shopping, Starbucks, cats, carrot cake, and blogging. I also love shoes and earrings, and spend a lot of time (and $) on them! Things I like doing include shopping (again), long walks, photography, reading, playing with animals, and going to the gym.
Above all I love meeting women from different places that are inspired to change the world and hope I will meet lots on here!

My Passions:
Reading, Blogging, Traveling, Gym, Meeting new people, Writing, Coffee & Tea
My Challenges:
Reading all the books I own, becoming better-informed, getting a PhD, one day writing a book (or 2)
My Vision for the Future:
Becoming better-informed about subjects I'm interested in, meeting lots of interesting people, staying in touch with the lovely people now in my life, working in areas to do with gender and Islam, clarifying a lot of misconceptions about Islam and women
My Areas of Expertise:
Sociology; gender, gender&Islam, colonialism, post-colonialism, Southern Africa, the Middle East, Iran, Holland, development, capitalism, citizen journalism
My Languages:
English, Dutch, Arabic, French
