Esther Gatuma

About Me:

Esther Gatuma is the President and founder of Woman of Paradise a 501 c3 non-profit organization rescuing girls from child bride trafficking. Her initiative equips girls and women around Kenya with business education and self-esteem capacity building workshops as the tools they need to become economically empowered to eliminate self-female genital mutilations. She possesses a strategic leadership style that effectively implemented violence against women prevention programs in hard to reach areas in Kenya through innovative ideas. She has been featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show as a Season 25 Hero, ABC News Guest, CBS News Guest and was named by the Guardian Newspaper (UK) as an African Woman to Watch in 2013 where she emerged number fourteen out of Top 25 African Women making an impact in Africa. Safaricom Kenya also named Esther as a Woman making History in Kenya during the month of March 2013. In December 2010 Governor Mike Beebe of the state of Arkansas congratulated her on behalf of the state of Arkansas for outstanding nonprofit work and compassion for the needy, She is also a recipient of a certificate of achievement for recognition in outstanding contribution to worldwide charity work by the Economic Empowerment forum of business women in Arkansas. My Passions:
To utilize the mobile revolution in Africa as a digital platform that will deploy safety apps to protect women in violent situations.
My Challenges:
Changing the face of my community into a community where women and girls walk with their heads high and self esteem.
My Vision for the Future:
To let the whole world know that despite the tragic cases of violence against women there is a new breed of young women emerging from the ruble of low self esteem.
My Areas of Expertise:
I am a software engineer and an innovator giving back to the world with my talents and innovation in using relevant technology to guarantee the safety of women and girls worldwide. I use the media as a platform to tell the story of Africa with dignity.
My Languages:
English, Swahili
