LEBOGANG KEOLEBOGILE MARUAPULA

About Me:

I am Public Relations Practitioner, International Policy & Diplomacy Student and all-things-Communications enthusiast. I am particularly passionate about digital media and Social Media and have been playing an active role in Organisational communication via Social Media.

I currently work for Botswana Tourism Organisation and previously worked at African Comprehensive HIV/AIDS Partnerships (ACHAP) as a Communications and Advocacy Officer where she supported the execution of ACHAP's Communication and Advocacy initiatives. My major Project to plan and Execute in my time at ACHAP was the International AIDS Conference 2012 which took place in Washington DC, USA. I was also part of the team that developed the Botswana Advocacy, Communication and Social Mobilization Strategy for TB HIV for 2012-2014 which was approved by the World Health Organisation (WHO) country office, Botswana.

I am passionate about philanthropy work specifically in mentoring young women and being a 'big sister'. I am one of 4 women who founded GODDESS Mentorship & Empowerment Program which aims at empowering young girls to realize their talents and potential through mentorship.GODDESS Mentorship and Empowerment program was founded in 2011 and has been supported by the US Embassy Botswana under the Kast Foundation.
GODDESS is a program ran by women for the girl child. Through GODDESS,I aim to empower the girl child to take control of her life and never view herself as an outcast, victim or powerless. She believes the girl child should see herself and treat herself as empowered. I also through GODDESS, made steps towards mentoring the girl child into making purposeful steps in her life, which she hopes will help eradicate victimization and reduce negative judgments and stereotypes amongst peers but rather encourage a spirit of ‘unity, support and oneness’.

Through GODDESS, I also plan Quarterly Empowerment Boot camps for young women where they will receive intensive mentoring over a day in efforts to give them a sense of confidence, positive self-esteem and a feeling of control over their own lives.

In my personal time I engage young women through social media and my personal blog awomaninherownright.wordpress.com where I reach out to young women as a former victim of sexual abuse by writing about my own life experiences where I turn some negative experiences into positive and giving young women a sense of empowerment through writing. Many young women reach out to me on a regular basis and it is my mission to touch the lives of young women in a positive light and give hope to young women who may have lost hope in their own lives.

GODDESS Mentorship and Empowerment Programme being my first passion, I hopes to grow the programme through digital media and traditional media so that it reaches many other young women especially in the rural areas of Botswana where many young women feel forgotten and are vulnerable to sexual abuse, being bullied and being coerced into unsavory sexual arrangements due to lack of confidence. i hope to grow the GODDESS community beyond urban young women; I believe that every young woman, no matter where she is from and what background she has deserves to be empowered.

In my personal capacity, I am currently supporting a young woman by giving her a second chance in education and paying for her school-fees for a Business and Technology course. The young woman got sick in her final year of high school and received bad results because of being away from school at long intervals. Although this is a small act, I believe that through more efforts and support, I will be able to touch many other young women's lives in a similarly impactful manner.

I have completed the Acumen Fund- Leadership essentials which imparts leadership skills especially to those who aim to be or are in the philanthropy industry.

I see myself as an ambassador for young women and hope that I will be able to play a more active role in the future.

My Passions:
Travel, Philanthropy and mentoring young women
My Vision for the Future:
To play an ambassadorial role for empowerment of young women in Botswana
My Areas of Expertise:
Communication, Public Relations, Social Media Management
