Sunita Basnet

About Me:

Voices of Our Future Correspondent

I am Sunita Basnet from Nepal but I am studying with full scholarship at Asian University for Women (AUW) in Chittagong , Bangladesh. I grew up in a remote village of about five hundred people in the Terai area in the eastern part of Nepal where the girls are poorly educated. However, luckily, I was able to join my higher education from the support of my parents.

I volunteered in human right journalism forum in Biratnager, Morang,Nepal. Furthermore,as a facilitator of Informal Sector Service Center (INSEC) which works to protect and promote human rights and social justices, I lead a delegation of 80 people including underpriviledged women, Political Leaders, Business Men, Farmers, Teachers and Service holder from two Village Development Committee in Morang, Nepal. It was for the campaign “Constitutional Assembly and People’s Dialogue’ in order to make people aware of their rights. I am also a One Young World Amabassador for 2010-2011. My aim is to open an NGO which will work to protect and promote human rights, development and socail justices. I also wanted to work against poverty by empowering women and making them economically strong. Regarding this, I had already started my journey from my country by opening women’s saving club which will help women to save their money and take loan in a low interest in their necessity. I wanted to convert saving club into credit union bank which will run only by women but with the support of men in the future for women's empowerment.
