About Me: 

I am an independent journalist based in Indian administered Kashmir. A Postgraduate in Mass Communication and Journalism from the University of Kashmir, I am a Senior reporter at The Press Institute, Bay Area, California (www.globalpressinstitute.org). I also contribute to the Women International News Gathering Service, Canada (www.wings.org), The Women’s International Perspective, Inc. (The WIP) Monterey, California (www.thewip.net) , WeNews, Barclay Street, New York (www.womensenews.org) and Kashmir Newz (www.kashmirnewz.com) a Srinagar based online news content provider. I have also worked with various local English dailies in Srinagar.I also contribute features to the various Indian national newspapers through New Delhi based Charkha Development Network, an organization focusing on the media coverage of developmental issues at the grassroots level especially in rural areas of India.

I have been awarded Sanjay Ghose Media Fellowship: 2008-09 for women journalists in J&K. I was selected for the Voices of Our Future Correspondents 2009 programme of World Pulse (www.worldpulse.com) and am now a media correspondent of World Pulse. I was awarded the UNFPA Laadli Media Award 2009-10 for gender sensitive reporting.

I am interested in covering issues, which have gone unreported or have got less coverage in the media. I want to travel a lot and write about what I see.

I love writing and want to make a difference by it.
