About Me:

Kwey kwey!

I am Principal Sachem of the Kichesipirini Algonquin First Nation, Kichi Sibi Anishnabe, an Indigenous Peoples of Canada. Few people know anything about us. That is because we were removed from the administrative records during colonization, and despite our continuing to exist, the "official" systems have not corrected the many misrepresentations of fact that can occur with colonialism.

I feel a special responsibility to uphold our history and identity, as I believe it is an important part of the human heritage belonging to the entire human family. Our community has experienced many challenges, and I think we can all learn from each other and work constructively, when we have access to accurate information. We have the right to the truth.

As a part of the unceded Algonquin Nation we are a forest and water people, and therefore stewards of important resources. We are also an Indigenous Peoples with a recorded tradition in peace processes and reconciliation. Our traditions carry careful responsibilities for sustainable development for future generations. We believe it is extremely important at this time that we preserve these teachings and responsibilities that are part of our traditional culture.

Please join me as I explore some of the challenges we have faced, and some that we continue to face. Let us look together at these experiences so that we may be inspired to find the solutions that we need as members of the human family today.

Take good care.

Paula
