My name is Christina; I'm a fellow in Rwanda with Global Grassroots.
The Community Vocational Training School (CVTS) is a Global Grassroots sponsored social venture. In 2008, the CVTS team identified women's involvement in sex work, and a resulting exposure to and lack of knowledge about HIV/AIDS, as one of the greatest problems facing their community. CVTS offers women the sewing skills to earn a sustainable living as tailors so that they can leave the sex trade. Since 2008, CVTS has expanded to work with widows, orphans, and other vulnerable women. CVTS provides training in tailoring as well as workshops on HIV/AIDS prevention, options for contraception, and reproductive health.
Global Grassroots is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that catalyzes ideas for social change designed by and for underserved women, especially in post-conflict countries. Our Academy for Conscious Change in Rwanda is a 12-18 month incubator offering non-profit management skills, leadership training, holistic trauma healing, seed grants and high-engagement support to help women change agents launch their own solutions to issues facing women. Since 2006, Global Grassroots has trained over 300 emerging change agents, who now operate 16 organizations that serve over 10,000 women and girls each year.
