About Me:

Justin Hakuta is a former U.S. Fulbright Scholar who researched human trafficking in the Philippines. A graduate of Carnegie Mellon University (2004, B.S. in Decision Science) where he pursued his passion for community involvement, Hakuta tutored inner city kids, cared for terminally ill patients at a hospice and linked fellow students to volunteer opportunities through a student organization he co-founded. By working at socially-minded organizations such as the National Peace Corps Association, Honest Tea and the Midtown Community Court in New York City where he helped formulate policy to reform the criminal justice system, Hakuta has constantly sought to combine his personal interest in social justice with his professional skill set. Justin started the Human Trafficking Project after seeing first-hand the need for increased public awareness of modern day slavery and the lack of funds available to assist survivors of trafficking during rehabilitation and reintegration back into their communities.
