Lindsey Rieder
I am currently finishing my Masters in Cultural Anthropology. I spent the last year living in India, and have lived in both rural and urban India. During this time, I decided that I want to make an organization to help people who currently do not have access to resources to resources connect and reach their goals and be able to make a better future for themselves. I hope to reach: families in poverty who need healthcare, literacy help, job training, safe and affordable housing. children who need education, healthcare, afterschool help, libraries.
The goal of the organization will be to:
1.) Help connect families to resources already available that the families do not have access to due to inadequate knowledge/literacy/bureacratic problems. (such as other NGOs, scholarships and government schemes, etc)
2.) Have a library and after school programs such as tutors and clubs for children, so they can get the passion for education and skills to complete school successfully. Additionally, a nursery school program that gives impoverished families a safe and fun environment for their youngest children while they work and older siblings attend school.
3.) Have 4 emergency homes for families who are in dire need: families living on the streets in abject poverty who need a safe place to live, food, to eat, and programs to help them get on their feet and in control of their lives again.
Additionally, I would like to have a sponsorship system so people can sponsor the children's education.
There are my goals at present. I am just in the beginning stages. I need others who are interested to join me. I need advice and stories on beginning organizations. I want collaboration. Most likely, I will start this organization in the urban environment, probably Delhi. Eventually, I hope to combine this urban work with a woman I know who works in rural Bihar.
