Akilah Institute for Women
I am very happy to join all of you in this community! Thank you for the opportunity. At the Akilah Institute for Women (based in Rwanda), approximately 70 young women are receiving an education in the hospitality and tourism industry, computer literacy, the English language and leadership. With a strong emphasis on leadership, Akilah trains these young women how to stand-up for themselves, take pride in their personal and professional roles in Rwanda, as well as the global community, and how to set ambitious goals as future leaders of their country. I am a part-time instructor, as well as the Academic Director. I love my job because of the real impact we are having on these women's lives each and every day. Take a look at what two students say about their Akilah experience (Peace & Florence):
"Now I know many great things that I did not know before. That is why I love Akilah very much. I am what I am today because of Akilah." more at: http://akilahinstitute.org/2011/03/my-name-is-peace/
"I hope I will be a lifechanger for those who need it." more at: http://akilahinstitute.org/blog/
We have big plans for growth among our student body, as well as the physical campus. I will be writing more in the coming days and weeks, and am eager to play a role in Pulse!
