CWGL

About Me:

Mission
The Center for Women's Global Leadership (CWGL) develops and facilitates women's leadership for women's human rights and social justice worldwide.

What We Do
CWGL’s programmatic areas are: the promotion of women’s leadership, the advancement of feminist perspectives in economic and social rights and the elimination of violence against women, in local, national and international arenas. CWGL achieves its work through: academic analysis; UN advocacy; activism; human rights education and research; strategic conversations; publications and resources; and international campaigns including the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence Campaign and the Gender Equality Architecture Reform (GEAR) Campaign. CWGL also embraces opportunities to engage on crosscutting issues of sexual rights and women’s human rights defenders.

Who We Are
CWGL was founded as a project of Douglass College in 1989. Based at Rutgers University, CWGL is part of the Office of International Programs in the School of Arts and Sciences and is a member of the Institute for Women's Leadership (IWL)—a consortium of women's programs at Rutgers University created to study and promote how and why women lead, and to develop programs that prepare women of all ages to lead effectively. The member units of IWL are: the Center for the American Woman and Politics (CAWP), the Center for Women and Work, the Center for Women's Global Leadership (CWGL), Douglass Residential College, the Institute for Research on Women (IRW), the Institute for Women and Art (IWA), the Office for the Promotion of Women in Science, Engineering and Mathematics, and the Women's and Gender Studies Department.

Over its history, CWGL has fostered women's leadership in the area of human rights through women's global leadership institutes, tribunals and hearings, strategic conversations, symposiums, publications and resources, and international campaigns, including The Global Campaign for Women’s Human Rights.
