I'm a 44 year old mother of four. I have two boys, aged 11 & 9, and boy/girl twins who are 4-years-old. Just before the financial crisis hit, I got fired from my job at the bank, and things have been rather exciting (not to say "rocky") ever since. Basically, my kids and husband gave me permission to start working for myself, and with no foreseeable source of income, I started prowling the sustainability events at the European institutions in Brussels, and began building a network of my own - related to information & communication technologies (ICT - my previous career area) and, well, saving the world.
The two intervening years have been very interesting and exciting. I have held jobs in PR and (e)Communications, and am currently working on a project with the European Commission to help Cities reduce their carbon footprint, among other things. But my real passion is about flipping our world on its head and making well-being (not money) the goal of our "enlightened" societies, creating greater opportunity for girls and women in the world, and finding a place for ICT to contribute to these, where possible, which is beyond technology as an end in and of itself.
As a woman who has lived all over the world and experienced womanhood from many different angles, I see Voices of Our Future as way to bring the story of women's experiences to the leaders of Europe, and hopefully, to the rest of the world. At the very least, I hope this initiative will give me the chance to connect with other women (and men) around the world to help improve the plight of women, to learn from the experiences of others, and maybe even to share whatever insights I may have gained in my own life with those who might find it interesting or helpful.
I guess I just want to make a difference. I want the time I spend away from my wonderful children to be meaningful and worthwhile, and I want to do what I can to provide them with a world where they and all those of their generation can grow to become everything they are capable of, and where they can enjoy a beautiful life in harmony with each other and their surroundings.
Before building my profile, I had the chance to read about some of the other people participating in the Voices of Our Future initiative, and I am already very inspired and in awe. It is an honor to share this space with you amazing women (and men!), and I look forward to the privilege of partaking in such richness. :)
