I am a Community leader. I strive to bring mostly slum and rural women together to share experiences, common values and challenges with an aim to Holistic Empowerment. This is done through capacity building and Merrry Go round projects.
Kiandutu Women Group – is my brainchild. Majority of the members live in the Kiandutu slums and the name Kiandutu is derived from the name “Jiggers” a parasite that is commonly found in areas were poverty is rife. The group was formed after interaction with the women at the grass-root level and together analyzed their basic and long term needs.
We started by off by contributing some small amounts of money from each member – Kshs.20 every week. This enabled us to save a substantial amount that enabled the group to be registered. Through capacity building workshops, each member managd to have a fuel saving basket and a Kitchen garden (from sacks). We have now identified an income generating project that will enable employment of some members and youth thereby creating employment/earning.
