SAFER

About Me:

SAFER brings together a group of health researchers in Toronto who are collaborating with the Panzi Hospital in Bukavu, South Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo. The SAFER executive members are: Cathy Nangini (Founder and Chair), Brad MacIntosh and Naomi Matsuura (Vice-Chairs). SAFER was started in November, 2004 and grows stronger all the time! Please visit www.saferworld.ca.

My Challenges:
We have many challenges. We need more information about women on the ground, in Bukavu or other eastern DRC areas, who are organizing or who want to organize ways of changing the roles of women and the cultural impacts of rape in their communities.
My Vision for the Future:
We envision a world where Violence Against Women, in all countries, becomes categorically unacceptable, at all levels. In short, to eliminate the culture of rape that allows VAW a place in society.
My Areas of Expertise:
We are health sciences researchers. Cathy and Brad are specialized in brain imaging in healthy and diseased brains, and Naomi is a materials scientist investigating better techniques for cancer detection. Cathy also has extensive journalism experience.
