Expanding opportunities for young persons' so as to unlock their potential is a critical aspect of me. When I look back to my life as a student in high school and University, I realise that I had to make life-changing decisons and a mentor in my life was a need not a want. Creating an enabling environment for the realisation fo this need has been my pre-occupation in the recent past.
I am a Kenyan mother to a three year old and married. My education background is in Law, Governance, Development and Education for Sustainability.
Currently I am working as an Executive Director of Ripe for Harvest Inc., a youth organisation based in Nyeri that deals with youth empowerment with special empasis on young women. I have been managing the implementation of a mentoring project funded by Vital Voices. Before the mentoring project, I implemented a human trafficking research and media campaign through music video and song funded by the American Bar Association.
Before joining Ripe for Harvest I worked with The CRADLE - a childrens organisation in the area of human trafficking. While implementing the human trafficking project at The CRADLE – The Children’s Foundation, at The CRADLE, I spearheaded the process of formulating an effective and enabling legal and institutional environment to counter human trafficking in Kenya through the drafting and participatory review of the draft Counter Trafficking in Persons Bill, 2006 and the Sexual Offences Act, 2006. I was also involved in carrying out a research on the Nature and Extent of human trafficking in Kenya.
