I was born in Burundi where I also grew up, in the Great Lake Region. The civil wars in the region had its negative impact on people, both on economic and social development. Burundi was not left out; the country had a civil war that lasted for over a decade. I was once caught and taken in the rebel camp. Thanks be to God I was luckily freed after two days in the camp. The experience was very terrifying and it changed my perception of life. It made me to have that sympathy and empathy for those struggling for survival in a war-torn environment. My passion for promoting peace and human rights, which I was doing before, was amplified.
During my Technical/Professional and university studies, I was an activist of peace and human rights, taking part in many activities such as seminars/workshops on peacemaking and peace keeping, conflict analysis and conflicts management, nonviolent communication, to mention just a few. I worked with organizations that promote peace and Human Rights e.g. Ministry For Peace and Reconciliation Under the Cross (MiPAREC), Hope for Burundi, Non Government Organizations: Solidalité (France), and “Ligue Iteka”: a Human Right organization in Burundi. When I moved to Kigali-Rwanda, I continued the same activities as in Burundi; though this time I had to learn trauma healing skills to help those who had psychological trauma as a result of massacres and genocide in Rwanda.
I traveled to Nigeria, where I was for over 9 years. I studied and got a Bachelor Degree. After my degree, I work as an advocate in Delta State and the Niger Delta Region in general. I have found myself working in environments that lack peace and where the rights of mankind are violated on daily basis.
The Passion for advocacy has always been in me. I hope to establish and offer training and intervention in mediation, peace building and conflict transformation for churches, rural communities, schools and government ministries with special emphasis on rebuilding war-torn societies nonviolently; set a resource centre offering mediation, training and intervention skills for justice, peace and participatory development – with a focus on democracy, education, and inter-religious dialogue.
