I first met Jensine in 2004 while she was working to gain support for her first publication. She had been having house parties where she spoke about her vision and what she was working to get off the ground. A year of so later after the first couple of beautifully produced magazines had been published, I made another show of support.
Over the years World Birth became World Pulse, and PulseWire was born. Jensine has unflaggingly pursued her calling.
For 15 years I was a ballet dancer. 10 years professionally. I worked closely with women on a daily basis. This is not like office work... It is physically and emotionally intimate work. Strong bonds are made.
Over the years several of the women I had worked with were raped. Ex girlfriends were raped. Of my 5 sisters, more than a couple were physically and emotionally abused.
I acted as an advocate for a friend who's ex husband threatened to kill her. When I found the challenges of the legal system testing my own resolve, I began to understand what a person in fear for their safety and unable to navigate the unresponsive law enforcement tangle must feel. The difference was I was not in her position. I became so incensed that I started to make calls. Things began to move.
Every day abuses go unnoticed. Women and children who have no one to advocate on their behalf, take steps backward.
How do we teach our children male and female to speak for them selves?
How do we teach those women that accept a life of abuse to break free to choose a different way?
I have much to learn. And I have many demons to vanquish.
I look forward to reading the ideas from so many lives and so much experience.
