About Me:

I am a journalist from Sudan. I worked with an independent newspaper, Alayam, documenting human rights abuses, violation of press freedom and women's rights in the country. I am an asylum seeker here, having fled Sudan in 2010 because I was abused by the security forces following my supposed violation of Sharīʿah Law. I was detained in 2008 simply for wearing trousers. I saw a lot of women from minority groups in Darfur and South Sudan when I was in custody. Most of them were not Muslim but they were unfairly detained and discriminated against under Islamic law.

I wanted to join Voices of Our Future to give them a voice and suggest ways to end their suffering.
