What is the recipe for a very healthy self-esteem?

Oh well, I am a self- esteem and empowerment columnist for Unlia Magazine a New York based life style magazine.I have also written and published articles and books on self-esteem building and empowerment related topics.I am a speaker and workshop presenter on everything self-esteem.

I know so well what it means to have very a poor or low self -esteem, and also a very sweet it is to have the most healthy self-esteem.I have lived in both worlds. I like World Pulse because its a forum for us as women to share ,make our voices heard while helping others at the same time........

But first what is SELF-ESTEEM anyway?

You can’t touch it, but it affects how you feel. You can’t see it, but it might be there when you look at yourself in the mirror. You can’t hear it, but it’s there when you talk about yourself or when you think about yourself. It’s is the most important part of your life. Without it you’re nothing.

But what is this very important yet mysterious thing called?

It’s your self-esteem!

In the next couple of weeks, I will be sharing with you some secrets to being irresistibly attractive. These care secrets that will help you to enjoy healthy, authentic and satisfying relationships with yourself and the people around you without being manipulative or fake. The secrets will also help you get whatever you want without playing games, cutting corners, following any rules or even try to fit in the status quo.

Some of what you are about to learn will be the complete opposite of what you have believed, known or been taught in the past about who you truly are. You have got to keep in mind that you wouldn't be reading this article unless there was some aspect of your ability to relate that wasn't working for you.

Here with my very first tip: when something does not work in your life, assume that you’re working on false information. Don’t worry-This is not a problem. In fact it’s a blessing. It means you have acknowledged you are off track and have already made the decision to correct your steps. Well done!

There are many myths surrounding the meaning of self -esteem so what I like us to do is first of all understand clearly what it means before proceeding.

# Understanding Self-Esteem?

Self-esteem is a term used in psychology to reflect a person’s overall emotional evaluation of his or her own worth. It is a judgment of one’s self as well as an attitude toward the self.

In very simple terms it’s actually how we value ourselves, how we perceive our values to the world and how worthy we think we are to us and the people around us.

Self – esteem affects every facet of our lives—our relationships, trust in others, our work and our day to day lives.

Self -esteem had been broken down into many different forms but for this series I will focus on two very popular forms; High and low self- esteem.

# High or positive or healthy self esteem

This is the type that gives us the courage, strength, flexibility and the faith to take charge of our lives and grow from our past or any situation without fear.

# The following are obvious signs of healthy self -esteem.

- Optimism

- Self believe

- Self confidence

- Ability to trust others

- Non blaming game

- Ability to say no without fear

- Ability to accept faults/criticisms and make corrections

- Ability to care of self.

- Ability to love self and accept imperfections joyfully, completely and with pride

# Low or poor or bad or unhealthy self – esteem

Low self-esteem is a negative evaluation of one’s self. It’s a debilitating condition that keeps the individual from realizing their full potential. It therefore makes the individual feel unworthy, incapable, jealous, incompetent and Insecure. They feel so poorly about themselves and unwanted.

# Some clear signs of low self- esteem are:

- Negative about life

- Perfectionist attitude

- Blame others for everything

- Fear of falling

- Fear of taking risk

- Insecurity

- Inability to make decisions- dependency

- Fear of being ridiculed or criticized

- Feelings of not being wanted or loved.

Feelings of low self-esteem develop over a lifetime. Sometimes right from our own family during our childhood. Sometimes from name calling and false labeling (Bullying) to name just a few. Being constantly criticized by family, friends, and society tends to slowly strip us of our feelings of self-worth.

And letting go of those ingrained feelings and behavior is always not an easy takes hard work, time, determination, and the zeal to really make it right and in most cases professional assistance.

With all that’s been said about self – esteem, where do you currently stand?

High or healthy self-esteem? Then give yourself a good pat on the back. Bravo to you. However you are still invited to follow me here to make it even healthier and stronger.

So who is in the middle or at lowest? It’s totally ok to admit wherever you are. I became a self -esteem expert because there was a time in my life I had ZERO. Yes you heard me right. Zero as in 0. But it had to take ME AND ME ALONE to realize, accept and fix it. Improving your self -esteem increases your confidence and is a first step towards finding happiness and a better life. Read on to find out how!

Mine is a journey of empowerment and so for the next few weeks, I will be using real life stories I have gathered over the years and my personal story to assist you to not only to discover sparks of self – esteem in you, but how you can use those lessons to transform your live and leave a very authentic live without apologizing.
