Circle of 6: A Free App That Prevents Violence Before It Happens

I just downloaded this app, Circle of 6: http://www.circleof6app.com/

It is available in 26 countries and now in India!

With only two taps, Circle of 6 connects users threatened with possible sexual assault and abuse to a network of trusted friends using GPS technology, texting, anti-violence resources, and a commitment to support each other. The app is currently being used in 26 countries with over 55,000 downloads worldwide, and the Circle of 6 team is planning to continue its rapid growth both on and off college campuses, with advanced plans for expansion in Mexico and other opportunities being explored.

New Delhi localization of Circle of 6 is available for iPhone starting on April 2, 2013, with Android version to be released April 15, 2013. To download and for more information visit http://www.circleof6app.com/

Circle of 6 is a project of Tech for Good, Inc, a start-up non-profit dedicated to violence prevention in vulnerable populations through the use of mobile technology and harm-reduction education principles. We are a lean, global team bringing our experience with storytelling, code and design to develop engaging tools and campaigns to support a culture of connectivity and accountability.

Circle of 6 was co-created in 2011 by The Line Campaign, Inc. and ISIS, Inc. two non-profits dedicated to creating healthier communities.

With this app, I chose 6 friends I trust to be on my safety network, to know where I am and who I can contact if I ever feel in danger. I also get good advice on what to do in certain situations.

I am looking forward to using it and sharing it with my friends, so we can all be safe and look out for each other.

Amazing !

This is amazing. I was just reading about Nancy Schwartzman, and her immense contribution towards spreading awareness about rape culture and the use of social media. Her award winning documentary "The Line" and the application "circle of six" is revolutionary. This is what happens when women and web come together. They create magic and help explore new dimensions of media technology.

Thank you for posting this. Very helpful indeed.

Love,

Mukut Ray
