Living through Crises: How the Food, Fuel and Financial Shocks Affect the Poor
Living Through Crises: How the Food, Fuel and Financial Shocks Affect the Poor, by Rasmus Heltberg, Naomi Hossain and Anna Reva, is a joint World Bank and IDS publication that can be read free online. The book looks at how these various shocks affect the poor, especially women, and how they are coping. A key part of these coping strategies is to rely on informal networks, rather than governments.
I am just reading the book and am impressed. The writing is clear and free of jargon, and respectful. And the book appears to include a lot of very useful information that can be helpful to women's organizations in showing, and supporting, the work they do at the community level.
