Muslim Women for Women's Rights

I stumbled across this article, and find the work that Lily Munir does, a giant step forward in creating change for future generations of Muslim girls and boys.

I think we can learn a lot from her! I only wish we could get her to join Pulsewire.

Giant step is right!

Thank you Wendy for posting this article. It is amazing to think about the fact that many women around the world are oppressed in their cultures and communities but don't make a stand against it because it is all they know. This story makes me think of the situation of the women in Peru and other coffee growing communities. I just went to an event for Cafe Femenino here in Portland and was absolutely blown away. They have (at the women's request) taught women coffee growers techniques to make their coffee worth more on the global market. This knowledge translates to their husbands and families. We watched a video on the project and the women involved and the transformation is amazing. The women in these communities see themselves as having more worth and are seen by their husbands and families as having more worth as well. This has created less abuse and changed the dynamics of familial relationships in these places. It is amazing what can happen when women understand their own value!
