Tiny ideas to encourage girls to explore mathematics and physics - 3: Reshaping science image?
Of the many pressures girls face with respect to science, one is quite basic and common: imagining science has, after all, little value.
If this happens, things are already compromised.
Of the many reasons this can happen, one is investigated especially (more may follow in subsequent issues): the cracking of trust caused by manipulative uses of mathematics.
Why this specific point, of the so many existing?
I think it's central, al these manipulative uses are frequent. Think the ways statistics is used in advertisement or politics: books have been written showing how people can induced to believe false things by using graphs, numbers and other apparently "authoritative" materials.
You'll find my view in the PDF included. It contains two "mini-chapters":
1) Reinventing the image of science?
2) Changing the personal sense of value of mathematics, physics and science.
With love, regards, and waiting for your feedback.
