World Pulse Toolkits Available!

At World Pulse, we recognize the need for ongoing learning—for you and for your community! Our toolkits are all available here.

We are especially excited to share our signature Citizen Journalism and Digital Empowerment Curriculum. Start learning today!

Security Online and Offline

Citizen journalists around the world put themselves on the line everyday. Raising your voice about politically-charged issues or asking tough questions can put you at risk for intimidation, surveillance or physical violence.

We have your security very close to our hearts. In the learning materials below, we will provide you with some basic tools and suggestions intended to serve as a guide to creating your own safety and security plan. With these tools you can take steps to protect your safety, without compromising your bold voice.

Cristi Hegranes of the Global Press Institute has created a Country Safety and Security Summary document, which includes the Reporters Without Borders Press Freedom Index ranking, constitutional provisions for the press, laws related to blogging and online content, recorded disappearances of bloggers/journalists/etc, and resources for further research. You will find the link to the document below.

Since World Pulse is not equipped to provide legal protection to freelance journalists, we have also included a list of organizations who may be able to offer legal assistance, additional resources and/or information. In the interest of public safety, you are free to print, post or distribute copies of the security resources as you see fit; we only ask that the normal conventions of accreditation are observed.

We encourage you to share new information, strategies and tips in your journals to promote safety among the World Pulse online community as well as offline in your local community. If you have any questions after reading through the materials, please send them to, and we will do our best to answer them at the Correspondent orientation call in November.

Please review your Country's specific security and legal information with the attached document.
