New Voices Fellowship: hopeful applicants
This group is being formed because of all the responses to the posted fellowship opportunity. The Aspen Institute is a highly-regarded organization offering a number of fellowships. The New Voices Fellowship is NOT an entry-level fellowship. Rather, it is a rigorous program which suggests previous and current experience in your current field or project.
Here is a description taken from their site: "Fellows can be drawn from a variety of development disciplines, ranging from public health and education to poverty alleviation, agriculture, sanitation and community activism. Ideal candidates are experts in their fields who have a deep understanding of broad development challenges and a passion for communicating their views." This quote can be found in the middle of this page: http://aspennewvoices.org/#aboutus
In addition, here is what Leina, (Yvonne Leina Fomuso) suggests: "I know applicants must be versed with issues pertaining to development in Africa. As a journalist it will be a plus if the applicant is using journalism as a tool for development in a specific area." Here is her bio on the Aspen Inst website: http://aspennewvoices.org/yvonne-leina-fomuso
You must be nominated for this fellowship. It would be best to receive a nomination from a well-reputed source who knows you and your work. I can not, unfortunately, be that source.
My hope for this group is that we can help each other. We need to research this opportunity and share with each other what we learn. In addition, I hope we can find other opportunities that are well-suited to our skill sets.
