Centre for Disadvantaged Girls

Welcome to the Centre for Disadvantaged Girls, a Community Based Organization in Kenya, probably your kind of Centre. We would like to inform you that today, there are millions of girls all over the world facing challenges which affect their spiritual, mental, emotional and even physical lifestyles.
Scores have been involved in dirty vices that include prostitution, fornication, rebellion, abortion, pornographic advertising, drug abuse and many more that are not mentioned here, but are equally unpleasant in the eyes of both one's Deity and the society they live in.
The Centre for Disadvantaged Girls, a centre with power in this era is here to reveal the will and potential in these girls and young women, who are so down trodden, distressed and afraid. This is their strength and ability, to make them help make the world a better place for the present and future genetations.
Everyday, many girls drop out of school due to lack of school fees, which is born of abject poverty. Most of them are usually very bright and could perform very well, given a chance to pursue their education.
Recent statistics reveal that 11girls get infected with HIV/AIDS every minute of every day. 380 young girls become pregnant; of course unwanted pregnancies, half of which end up in abortion. 60% of these abortions are always unsafe, which leaves at least 3 young, unwed teenage mothers dead from pregnancybrelated causes.
As the HIV/AIDS scourge continues to prey on women and young girls in society, majority of the stakeholders in the fight against the condition have mostly been based on behavioral change, which is untimely, in as much as it is a good campaign strategy.
At the Centre for Disadvantaged Girls, we believe that more needs to be done than a change in the behavioral patterns. Our message to the youth, especially girls and young women out there is to cling to POWER because AIDS preys mostly on the weak, and young women are most vulnerable because:
They are often pressured to have sex especially so if they happen to be idle school dropouts.
While out of school, they are denied the information needed to help them make informed decisions.
They frequently lack the skills to negotiate with men, and the confidence to challenge them.
Due to peer pressure, they are usually afraid that being too assertive will make them unpopular.
At times, even when they make informed decisions, they are unable to negotiate for safe sex.
The Centre for Disadvantaged Girls feels that the time has come to empower young women in Kenya with the skills and information that will help them make informed decisions and choices.
We are looking forward to meeting you in our luncheons, retreats, seminars and clinics.
