Voices of the Future 2013 Applicant Group
Welcome to the Voices of Our Future 2013 Applicants Group!
Your voice is important and we are so excited to see women from around the globe joining our group. Even though there are only 30 spaces in the full, five-month long program starting this June, we value all the efforts you will put into the application process. The connections you can make on World Pulse during this process have the potential to transform and shape our world.
When you join World Pulse, you become part of a growing family of remarkable women who are using their voices to change the world, one person, one community and one nation at a time. World Pulse exists because we believe that when women are heard they have the power to change the world. Together we will work to create a more just and equitable society. By providing you with tools and knowledge in citizen journalism and digital empowerment through Voices of Our Future Program, we hope you will drive global conversations and unleash your potential.
Starting on April 2nd, you will receive a link to our Application Classroom where you will receive four, weekly sets of learning materials introducing you to the concepts of women and media, citizen journalism, digital empowerment and the World Pulse voice. You will then be asked to complete a short writing assignment and will post this to your World Pulse journal. These assignments will be our view into your world, your voice and your vision for the future. During this process, I encourage you to ask your fellow applicants for help! We believe that collaboration and dialogue makes us all stronger. Post questions in this group, ask for feedback on drafts and connect with one another! Together we will creatively thrive!
Our staff are also here to assist you with questions you may have. Here is a short introduction to staff:
Zoe Piliafas, Program Manager for Voices of Our Future: I have been working with World Pulse since January 2013. The last eight years I have worked in domestic education as a teacher and Director of Programs aimed towards increasing opportunities for disenfranchised communities. My passions are centered in community centered solutions and identifying systematic structures that create institutional oppression. I believe in the power and potential that lies in each of us and if provided the proper support we can all thrive. I am excited to learn and grow from the World Pulse Community.
Delphine Criscenzo, Training and Outreach Associate for Voices of our Future: I am really excited to be joining the World Pulse team. I strongly believe everyone should get an opportunity to tell their own story. I have been involved with community radio for the past four years and have been so empowered by having the ability to create journalistic content. I am now working towards a Master's degree in Multimedia journalism. I was born and raised in Aix en Provence, France, and I have lived in the U.S for 6 years. I am dedicated to spending my life raising awareness about social, racial and environmental issues.
Please don't hesitate to post your questions to the group journal. Our staff will reply as soon as we can.
With deep respect and gratitude,
Zoe
