Women and the News Media
The aim of this group is to provide a place to discuss the representations of women in the news media, specifically the absence of women as both sources and producers of the news.
Worldwide, studies have found that women make up a little more than one-third of reporters and authors and less than a quarter of news sources.
This leads us to ask:
-Where are the women? Why are their voices absent?
-Why does it matter? Why is it important that women have a part in the creation of the news and have their voices heard as news sources?
-What are possible solutions and ways to tackle these issues?
-What organizations or individuals are making strides?
The goal here is to discuss these issues as well as possible solutions. World Pulse is one organization working on solutions to this issue by empowering women's voices and providing a platform for them. But, what other solutions are there? What can we do as individuals about these issues locally, nationally and globally?
This group can also be a place to share your experiences and challenges as a female journalist.
Join the conversation. Share your thoughts and observations.
