Young Women's Equity Project
YWEP program works with African and Slavic young women interested in opportunities in Sciences, Technology, Engineering and Mathematic fields.Developed through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education Women's Educational Equity Act Program, the YWEP program works with African and Slavic young women ages 14-23 who are interested in pursuing careers and educational opportunities in the Sciences, Technology, Engineering and Mathematic fields.
IRCO's bilingual/ bicultural staff work with YWEP participants to foster Math and Science awareness in the form of career workshops, guest speakers and field trips. Career Counselors and Instructors work closely with participants to provide academic support through classes and groups led by IRCO Instructors, tutoring, homework clubs, parent workshops, and individual consultations with teachers, counselors, parents and the students. Participants are provided opportunities to develop their academic and work portfolios through volunteer experiences, internships and practicum with Math, Science, Engineering and Technology related businesses.
