I am very grateful and happy to be a member of pulse wire. I learnt about pulse wire through a friend's reference and since March I have participated in the VOF application process. Since then I have interacted with several people managing the group and have benefited a lot through their encouragement and support.
I am enrolled in a private university here in Kenya (The United States International University in Africa-USIU, A) pursuing studies leading to a BA in Journalism. I have been there since Spring 2006 and should be about to graduate by this year. However, I have missed studies for five consecutive semesters (almost 2 academic years) as a result of financial difficulties. I enrolled for my studies on my own that is without the help from my family using savings from previous jobs. My family is not able to support me because they were not for the idea of me pursuing further studies, one because of my age (I am turning 30 in September) and two my gender (I am a woman and should be married by now)
I defied the odds and enrolled since I have a vision of achieving the highest and being the best I can be. The burden is so hard on me now and I am at the verge of giving up. I am not in employment and the little I earn from small businesses I often run is not even enough to sustain my daily needs and things are getting harder with inflation rising to its highest ever. I still live in my big sister's apartment which for her is a burden from someone of my age.
Tuition fees for my studies is $1500 per semester (inclusive of library fee, journalism and computer lab fee, activity fee and medical fee ) Transport, accommodation and meals are beside this. Every academic year has three semesters.
I have been up and down looking for employment to support myself in vain and have also applied for several scholarships and funding with no success. This is due to very few available opportunities here in Kenya especially for private university students. The next semester begins in a week's time and I was hoping to resume but it now seems impossible. To be accepted back requires me to offset a fee balance amounting to Kenya shillings 135,000 (around 1730 dollars) which I cannot and may not be able to raise anytime soon. I am remaining with two years to complete my studies.
I have decided therefore to place my appeal through Pulse Wire and avoid joining the statistics which have become commonplace in our under developed world. There are definitely many others out here undergoing same circumstances. I have a dream of completing my studies and joining forces especially of women making a difference in the world to give everyone a chance in life and Pulse Wire has really given me much of that hope.
If there is any possible scholarship or any other funding opportunity available, I will very much appreciate to avail any relevant and crucial information for authenticity and transparency. Meanwhile, I can be reached by and cell phone number +254 721 67 13 74

Thanks a lot to Pulse Wire for providing a space for the unheard and unreached to raise their voices.

no giving up in life

Hei Kurui
Sirry to read your burdening life, but every second minute spend well is a blessing.Strive hard and keep you moral high.
I would like to put in some thoughful thoughts and ideas towards this.
1. Approach your MP .If he is nice and social like ours he will give you an ear.He should be able to healp you through bursury fund.
2.Iam a passionate runner and I always think and work out hundles as a runner.Register in a certain race say Nairobi marathon which will be on in October,do it for a purpose.and the purpose here is to raise money for your education.Iam sure if you stand infront of your collegues with that proposal ,you will be amazed by what God will do.I can help you with the proposal, you can email me
3.Join solesitas in pulse wire .It is for runners who sweat for the needy.

One of this must work!

Love Shiku

Thanks Ciku

Giving up in life is probably the worst option but sometimes life can push you too hard. Anyway thanks for your concern because it has become very hard to find anyone to talk to especially about problems. My MP is not as friendly since I have tried in vain and have never even gotten to talk to him let alone seeing him. The other issue is that the bursary fund would be like a drop in the ocean considering the amount needed every semester. Anyway I am still pushing on and will try the options you have indicated. Thanks again and God Bless you abundantly for your kindness.
