The Flaming Lips will headline Earth Day on The National Mall in Washington DC on Sunday, April 19, 2009. Actor Chevy Chase will emcee this free event which will feature an eclectic performance line-up with moe., Los Lobos, and DJ Spooky. EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson, Kathleen Rogers, President of Earth Day Network, actor Matthew Modine, Philippe Cousteau, and Rep. Edward Markey, U.S. House of Representatives will join us to kick off The Green Generation™ Campaign. Earth Day on the Mall is sponsored by Disneynature Earth, Motorola, Clear2Go and Timberland.
Volunteer for Earth Day!
Across the U.S. on April 17 and 18, Earth Day Network and partner Green Apple Festival will host volunteer projects in parks, beaches, schools and forests, focused on climate change. Volunteer activities and thank you concerts will take place in Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Denver, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Seattle, Chicago and Washington, DC. Change Begins with a Conversation
Earth Day Network is partnering with ICLEI USA, Yale, and America Speaks to present the 2009 National Conversation on Climate Action. These town-hall style meetings in 50 cities across the U.S. on Earth Day, April 22nd, are focused on local solutions to climate change. Local officials and experts on issues ranging from renewable energy to corporate sustainability will face the public in an effort to build support for climate protection.
Stories of Water
The Global Water Network has released the Water Stories Report, a collection of stories about the role of water and sanitation in the lives of members of the Global Water Network. The stories display the vast differences in access to water and sanitation around the world, but also demonstrate how important water and sanitation are to all of us- equally. Read the Report
