Offer: Call for Peace Projects Jury Members

The Journalists and Writers Foundation (JWF) is soliciting jury members for its Peace Projects Grant Program. This Program aims to support innovative conflict resolution and peacebuilding projects focused on preventing, managing and resolving violent conflict and promoting post-conflict peacebuilding. It supports projects up to US$50,000 that apply a broad range of disciplines, skills and approaches promoting peaceful coexistence through dialogue and reconciliation; fostering pluralism, good governance, freedom of belief; advancing social and economic development and environmental responsibility; upholding respect for human rights, and gender equality and empowerment, among others. JWF is inviting qualified applicants to serve as jury members in the evaluation of the submitted Projects.

Evaluation Phases
The Jury Members will be asked to serve on the following phases of the Grant Program:

Summary Proposals Evaluation
Each Summary Proposal will be evaluated by three-Jury members who are experts in relevant fields and regions. A Summary Proposal includes a 4-page concept note, short biographies of key personnel and a summary budget. Each jury member will be asked to evaluate up to 40 Summary Proposals in their respective areas according to the Summary Proposal Evaluation Criteria. Honorarium for evaluating 40 Summary Proposals will be 1,000 USD. In case of less than 40 Summary Proposal evaluations, this honorarium payment will be prorated.

Full Proposals Evaluation
50 most successful projects will be invited to submit a full proposal. A Full Proposal includes a 12-page concept note, a detailed budget with budget narrative, two recommendation letters, and CV’s of the key personnel. Each Full Proposal submission will be evaluated by three jury members who are experts in relevant fields and regions. Each jury member will read up to 10 Full Proposals. Honorarium for 10 Full Proposal evaluations is 1,000 USD. In case of less than 10 evaluations, this honorarium will be prorated.

Grant Interviews
15 most successful Finalist Project representatives will be invited for an interview and an Award Ceremony. The date and location of the interviews and award ceremony will be announced later on the Peace Projects website. The Final Interviews will be evaluated by an 8-member jury. Four of the jury members will be selected among those jury members who have evaluated 40 Summary Proposals and 10 Full Proposals and according to the regional and thematic expertise relevant to the Finalist Projects. These Final Interview jury members will evaluate each of the 15 Finalist projects. All travel and accommodation expenses associated with this interview will be covered by JWF. In 2015, the honorarium for serving on the Grant Interviews will be 1,000 USD.

Implementation Interviews
Starting in 2016, completed projects’ representatives will be invited to present their projects. Each project will be evaluated for effective implementation, quality of the deliverables, and management of the programs. The most successfully managed and implemented projects will receive best implementation cash awards. The Implementation Interviews will take place prior to the Award Ceremony. Jury Members, who will be evaluating the Grant Interviews will also be asked to to serve as jury members for the Implementation Interviews. Honorarium for serving on the Implementation Interviews and Grant Interviews will be 2,000 USD (joint Grant Interview and Implementation Interviews will start in 2016.)

Honorarium Payments
Honorariums will be deposited into the given bank accounts of jury members upon the completion of each evaluation stage. In case a jury member evaluates less than 20 Summary Proposals, the Summary Proposal honorarium will be paid together with the Full Proposal honorarium after the completion of Full Proposals evaluation stage.

Jury Member Eligibility Criteria

Individuals who are submitting a proposal or is serving on a proposal are not eligible to serve on the jury.
Fluency in English is required.
7 years of field experience; or MA and minimum 5 years field experience; or PhD and minimum 2 years field experience in at least one of the 'Thematic Areas' identified below.
