Offer: Course on “Women, Entrepreneurship and ICTs” from WWW Campaign Partners, Telecentre


The long wait is over. The very first edition of Telecentre Academy’s “Women, Entrepreneurship and ICTs” course in English will be launched on July 14. The 8-week online course will provide participants with the practical ideas, skills and resources necessary to help them launch and grow their own business. It will also enable them to develop their own business plan.

Developed and implemented in partnership with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and Esplai Foundation, the course will be delivered through TCA’s online platform. A dedicated group of facilitators will be providing the guidance and support necessary for participants to take full advantage of the course content and resources. All participants who successfully complete the course will receive a corresponding certificate from TCA.

Since this is the very first batch of the course in English, participants who will enroll in the course will get a 50% discount on the regular course fee which is $100 per participant. As such, enrollees in the pilot batch will only have to pay $50 each.

1) Leading Strategic Innovation in Organizations (free on-line course/MOOC) – From July 1st to Sep 2
9 weeks of study - 6-8 hours of work / week - in English – videos with English subtitles
This course is intended to help you improve your ability to manage creativity, innovation and change in business, education, healthcare, government, and in any other complex organization or institution by diagnosing potential innovation failures before they can occur. Using an “innovation constraints” framework that draws on modern social science research and on insights from business practice, participants will learn how to best manage people (be they co-workers, bosses, customers, clients, friends or any other stakeholders) when innovation is the goal. While we see several examples of technological innovation, we are not focused on the management of technology. Instead, we focus on something much more powerful: understanding and managing the people engaged in creation, innovation and positive change, regardless of the context.

2) Mobile Health Without Borders (free online course/MOOC): from Jul 7th to Aug 31st
The course will function like a conference, but it takes place over 8 weeks rather than two days, and encourages the transformation from passive audience observer to active participant and thought leader. The themes to be addressed are: Global Health Challenges; Mobile Health Opportunities; Entrepreneurship in Health Care. Students will work closely with classmates from around the world on small group assignments to prepare for the Health Innovation Challenge: an opportunity to work with a global multi-disciplinary team and world-class mentors to design a solution to a health challenge you care about.

3) Technology & the Future: Managing Change and Innovation (free MOOC)
Jul 7, 2014 to Aug 25
This course focuses on the application of theoretical approaches to the strategic management of technology and innovation. Concepts, tools, and process will be explored through lectures, readings, team activities, and case study applications. Major topics include: The importance of technological innovation; Dynamics of technological change; Factors affecting technological innovation and adoption; Organizational strategy and strategic management in the face of rapid technological change.

4) Leaders of Learning (free on-line course/MOOC)
Classes Start: Jul 8; Course Length: 6 weeks; Estimated effort: 4 - 6 hours/week
The education sector is undergoing great transformation, and in the coming decades will continue to change. How we learn, what we learn, where we learn, and why we learn — all these questions will be reexamined. In Leaders of Learning we will explore learning, leadership, organizational structure, and physical design. The only requirements for the course are: an interest in the evolving world of learning; a curiosity about leadership in this new world; a willingness to examine your own beliefs about learning; and an openness to sharing your thoughts with and responding to others.

5) International Women's Health & Human Rights (free on-line course/MOOC) – from Jul 10 to Sep 5
This course provides an overview of women's health and human rights issues, beginning in infancy and childhood, then moving through adolescence, reproductive years and aging. We will consider economic, social, political and human rights factors, and the challenges women face in maintaining health and managing their lives in the face of societal pressures and obstacles. The course focuses on "critical issues," namely those that may mean life or death to a woman, depending on whether she can exercise her human rights. These critical issues include poverty; discrimination against women; unequal access to education, food, paid work and health care; forms of violence, in the home and in war and refugee circumstances; maternal health; and sex trafficking of women. Our MOOC will have a special focus on creating a network of engaged participants to share experiences and to take part in interactive discussions and cooperative exercises. We ask participants to engage with the communities they live in, in order to deepen their understanding of the issues and tie academic ideas to real-life circumstances.

6) Creativity, Innovation and Change (free on-line course/MOOC)
Start Date: July 14; 6 Weeks; Workload: 3-5 Hours/Week
This course is designed to stimulate problem-solving, so participants can capitalize on change and diversity. A broad review of the creative process, students will apply fast failure, differentiation, and value creation techniques to help them become change agents. Consisting of 5-10 videos and readings, the course foregoes exams and quizzes, relying on creative exercises and reflection papers for students to demonstrate their mastery of course content. There will one per week (total = 6), required reflection submissions for a Statement of Accomplishment, and an additional 12 peer reviews during the entire course for a Statement of Accomplishment with Distinction. While the official language of the course is English, the Chinese translation is provided to ease the experience of our Chinese student population.
