Offer: Laajverd presents Bacha (Child) Bawarchi Khana (Kitchen)
A new project titled Bacha Bawarchi Khana initiated by Laajverd, an NGO based in Islamabad to be introduced in Teachers Literary Festival and Children's Literary Festival Islamabad being held on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of May 2014.
The project aims to provide children an insight into the world of food and its sustainability. In the backdrop of food insecurity and poverty the urban privileged child has to realize the blessing of one square meal a day. According to the recent National Nutrition Survey, around 60 per cent of Pakistan’s total population is facing food insecurity.
This provides an opportunity to focus on educating children about food, its availability, healthier substitutions, local produce and food wastage. This can help children in adopting a lifestyle which is focused on healthy and sustainable eating and reducing food wastage keeping in mind that most of the children in Pakistan have to do without food and if it is available then the quality and adequacy of food items is questionable which results in malnutrition , anemia, multiple diseases and deaths. On the other hand the affluent class is over feeding its children which results in multiple diseases; mostly obesity.
Children aged 8-14 are invited to participate in a new and innovative cookery competition. Kids younger than 8 years are also invited to come to the stall to participate in fun and games, win numerous prizes and learn about food, sustainability and Pakistani produce.
