UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) has launched its annual 'Women Make the News' campaign and online forum, a global initiative aimed at promoting gender equality in the media.

This year's campaign, under the theme, "Gender Equality Policies in Media Organizations," seeks to emphasize the significance of developing and introducing policies in media organizations to prevent all forms of discrimination based on gender.

UNESCO, in partnership with the International Federation of Journalists, invites women and men working in media organizations, professional associations, and journalists' unions to participate in the 'Women Make the News' online forum by sharing personal experiences and best practices in advocating for, developing, and implementing policies to ensure equality for women journalists.

These policies may refer to specific sub-themes such as equal pay and opportunities for promotion, working in conflict or post-conflict zones, gender stereotyping, monitoring policy implementation, etc.

For more information and to submit your story (deadline is April 15, 2009), visit the 'Women Make the News' website: http://portal.unesco.org/ci/en/ev.php-URL_ID=18295&URL_DO=DO_TOPIC&URL_S...
