Need: Women Crossing the Line: Saving Fauna and Flora in Chivi District
I am a feminist activist. I have watched with pain the environmental degradation in my village in Chivi district. The headman is selling land, including land designated as pastures for animals to gain money for personal use. Cattle now have nowhere to graze and women and children of the village have to bear the brunt of walking long distances to fetch suitable pastures for their animals. Owing to environmental degradation, rains are now elusive and women again suffer from walking long distances to fetch water for both home and animal consumption. The village also suffers from hunger as they can not grow crops for subsistence because of climate change. I belong to the royal line in this village, and have decided to cross the line and claim the position of village head in order to restore sanity in the village and serve the environment. I have since filed an application with the traditional authorities in the village, who have granted permission for this. My first step will be to remove all people who have been illegally settled in pastureland and resettle them elsewhere. For a democratic process to ensue, resources will be required to aid the process, and I am looking for support from all organisations that fund environmental sustenance for this project.
