About TechWomen

"TechWomen brings emerging women leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) from Africa and the Middle East together with their professional counterparts in the United States for a mentorship and exchange program. TechWomen provides participants access to networks, resources, and knowledge to empower them to reach their full potential.

During the five-week program, participants engage in project-based mentorships at leading companies in the San Francisco Bay Area and Silicon Valley, participate in professional development workshops and networking events, and travel to Washington, D.C. for targeted meetings and special events to conclude the program.

Over the last two years, seventy-eight women from Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, the Palestinian Territories, Tunisia, and Yemen participated in TechWomen. The 2013 TechWomen program has expanded to include women from Cameroon, Kenya, Libya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, and Zimbabwe."

Enlighten Me!

This is where I have had problems all along. I have associates in Africa and cannot communicate with them smoothly. I have started women's writing course for them but they cannot keep up. They are using mobile telephones and do not have access to Internet. This means that they don't have skype. How would that be possible without consistant electricity? One associate in Nigeria got computer virus attack from unknown sources. There are government intervention to mess up the system. Those who really need help are exploited by the system. They need help calliing me every now and then. My heart goes toward them but cannot do too much. Will you let me know how I participate the program? What is the condition? I'd be very happy if you can solve this problem. Thank you.

Hello Hideko, Here is a link

Hello Hideko,

Here is a link to the eligibility requirements for participation in this program: https://www.techwomen.org/participants/eligibility-and-application

In the eligibility requirements it states that women participants must be citizens or permanent residents of the following countries: Algeria, Cameroon, Egypt, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, the Palestinian Territories, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tunisia, Yemen, or Zimbabwe.

So, I don't know that you would fit this specific requirement, but perhaps you know someone in Nigeria who would be interested in applying.

I hope that helps.

Wishing you the best!
Emily

Emily

En anglais:Hello Princesse! I too wish this program included the DRC, and I'm sorry it doesn't. It looks like they recently added several countries in Africa, so perhaps they will continue to expand their programming. I hope so!
I will keep my eye out for similar programs that do not have a country requirement.

Wishing you well, my dear friend!
Emily
