Offer: Peace Research Grants

The IPRA Foundation provides Peace Research Grants (up to $5,000) to support systematic observation or study of conflict phenomena and peace strategies. Special consideration will be given to applicants from the developing world. In order to apply for a small grant, please contact Dr. Al Fuertes.

To apply for a Peace Research Grant, please fill out the application form and email it and the following documents to Dr. Al Fuertes .

The materials you will need to apply for a grant are listed below:

• a curriculum vitae for the director of the project

• a project proposal, including the goals of the project, a detailed research strategy, a timeline for completion of the project, a budget, and a brief, relevant bibliography. (For suggestions on how to address these issues and to structure the proposal, please consult The Foundation Center Learning Lab.)

• the project proposal should include the names, addresses, and phone numbers of three references

• a short essay describing how the project furthers the goals and mission of the International Peace Research Association, which are to advance interdisciplinary research into the conditions of peace and the causes of war and other forms of violence. Peace research is distinguished by its attention to systematic observation or study of conflict phenomena and peace strategies. We will give special attention to any project that explains how the conditions of peace can be advanced and/or the causes of war and other forms of violence be removed

• a dissemination plan that explains how you will share your research and how your research could lead to action that will promote peace

There are several important dates for applicants. The reports for these dates are further explained below.

• Project End Date: An applicant must determine the date the project is anticipated to end. After the grant is awarded, this date is negotiated with the grant administrator.

• Report Date: An applicant must determine the date on which the final project report will be due. A mid-project report is due six months after the grant is awarded.

• Presentation Date: This date is determined after the award has been granted and designates the date the awardee will present their findings to the IPRA Foundation Board.

Successful applicants need to submit three reports on the progress of their project:

• a small one page report 6 months after you have received a grant summarizing how the money has been spent and what you are accomplishing

• a final written report to the IPRA Foundation emphasizing what was accomplished or learned in carrying out the project. This report must be completed within the timeline submitted in the proposal or within a timeline agreed upon with the president of the IPRAF foundation

• a brief report on the project for the IPRA Newsletter and give an oral presentation at an IPRA or IPRA affiliate meeting

• if future publications about this research allow it, acknowledge the support you have received from the IPRA Foundation

If you are interested in viewing previous recipients, please view the Grant Awardees page.
