Need: Request for support to attend the 2013 Women’s Human Rights Education Institute, Ontario, Canada

2013 Women’s Human Rights Education Institute, Ontario, Canada
I have been accepted for the Six-week Women’s Human Rights Education Institute workshop in Ontario, Canada from May 22 to June 28th, 2013. This is a great opportunity for me to horn my women’s human rights skills in the context of HIV/AIDS and violence against women in general but also in the context of general elections.
In Kenya, women are negatively affected by HIV/AIDS in many ways, in particular, when their husbands die and their property rights are violated by extended family members. Violence against women is also rampant, and many women do not know where to go for help. Rape of women and children as young as 5 years is on the increase and something has to be done about it. In Kenya, women who seek public office face many hurdles including violence, in spite of our new constitution that calls for 30% representation by women at all decision-making levels. This training will help sharpen my skills to work with women and advocate for the rights of children in Kenya to address these issues more effectively and efficiently.
The cost of the course is $12,000 broken down as follows:
Tuition: 5,000
Deposit for course: 1,000
Airfare: 2,000
Food: 1,550
Accommodation: 1,600
Travel within Ontario: 250 (airport transfer, etc)
Incidentals: 600 (insurance, medical, stationery, etc)
TOTAL: 12,000
Amount raised so far: I have raised $1,000 so far. I have received full tuition waiver of $5,000. Total amount raised: $6,000.
Amount fundraising for: I am thus looking for $6,000 to cover travel, food and accommodation.
I feel that this course will greatly enhance my skills to work with women in Kenya to address issues of their rights in the context of Kenya’s new constitution, HIV/AIDS, violence against women, among other areas of need.
I thus am requesting for financial support to enable me attend this important course. IF YOU HAVE FREQUENT FLYER MILES YOU CAN OFFER ME, THAT WILL GREATLY HELP WITH MY TICKET.
Please contact me via email: for more information.
