Offer: Room to Read - Libraries, Classrooms, Books, and Training

Non-Profit: Room to Read: World Change Starts with Educated Children

Room to Read is a non-profit working in several countries in Africa and Asia. The information below is taken from their website:

"We envision a world in which all children can pursue a quality education, reach their full potential and contribute to their community and the world.

To achieve this goal, we focus on two areas where we believe we can have the greatest impact: literacy and gender equality in education. We work in collaboration with communities and local governments across Asia and Africa to develop literacy skills and a habit of reading among primary school children, and support girls to complete secondary school with the life skills they’ll need to succeed in school and beyond.

Room to Read partners with communities across the developing world to promote literacy and gender equality in education by establishing libraries, constructing classrooms, publishing local-language children’s books, training educators and supporting girls’ education. We believe all children deserve the opportunity to reach their full potential, and that investing in education now will pay dividends for generations to come.

Room to Read currently operates in ten countries in Asia and Africa. In each country, we adapt our five core programs to suit the individual needs of the population in question, ensuring that each dollar spent has the most possible impact on the children we serve.

We employ local teams which are personally invested in their nation’s educational progress, and familiar with the challenges ahead. They speak the language, know the customs, and understand what it takes to implement each program successfully."

HOW CAN WE BENEFIT

hello Kathy,
i so much impressed by the work you are doing. i am a C.E.O of YOUNG AFRICAN WOMEN INITIATIVE (YAWI). it is a NGO based in Africa-kenya. as i was going through your website i did not see any activities in Kenya. In yawi we have a program for girls where we identify and create a school club for girls. we would like to benefit from your program by sponsoring our girls. please let me know if this is workable.

Dear Fidelis,

I cut and copied the information from Room to Read into our Resource Exchange. I realize now looking at the post it looks like I am associated with them, but I am not. I am with World Pulse. I've changed the text above to make that clearer.

Please refer to the Room to Read webpage and contact them directly. I suggest contacting their global office in San Francisco. Please let them know you found them through us.

Good luck! I would love to know how it goes.

tell your story for our campaign

Katrina,

I hope Room to Read can help you. I know you have a lot going on. It would be interesting for our community to hear your story of why you have this need. If you can post a short story about the children you are helping, your situation, and what your needs are for our girls' campaign this will highlight your plight, why these simple things are so important and give voice to others in similar situations.

As well put a "Need" in the Resource Exchange if you haven't already.
Many Blessings to You,

Kathy
