Need: Members from Los Angeles, are you there?!

Hey everybody,

I read something ultra interesting today about the Los Angeles City Council thinking about implementing a sort of universal card (that would include ID, library and debit card) to be made available to undocumented migrants, homeless and people with a difficult credit situation at "classic" banks.

Here is what it's about: http://wavenewspapers.com/news/local/article_9adc35b8-17ef-11e2-ae97-001...

I was wondering if anybody living in the area could tell me if the debate is a big one or not, what's the public reaction, and if there are special institutional websites that could deal with this more precisely?

I am working in research on migration in Europe and I thought this was an awesome initiative. So, any comment on the politics behind it would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks to everybody :)
