Offer: Offer to teach/mentor

Hello,
My name is Lea and I am an ESL teacher who is currently living in Germany. I know that many women on this site already have an excellent grasp of English; still I thought perhaps I could be of help to anyone who would like to work on their English (general or academic). I have some experience teaching online, which isn't ideal, but is nonetheless an effective way of establishing contact with students living far away.
Teaching is my passion and if I am able to use my skills to empower, inspire, motivate, I will have done my job as a teacher and mentor.
If you're interested, don't hesitate to contact me!

What languages?

Hi Lea,
Thanks for this generous offer! I'm curious, what languages are you familiar enough with that you could work one-on-one with someone learning English? Or does that not matter? I'm not an ESL teacher myself, so I would love to hear how you've been successful.

I hope that some members in our community can take you up on this! Please let us know if you end up making a good connection with anyone. :)

Kind regards,

Scott Beck

Thank you!

Hi Scott,
Thank you very much for your message. Per your questions, I have been volunteering as an English teacher online through an organization called AIWR, teaching young women in Afghanistan at a community center. It's been a very rewarding experience and I really recommend it to anyone who would like to make a difference in the lives of those impressive young women. As I have never worked with complete beginners online-I think it would be too difficult to do so-mostly High Elementary to High Intermediate students, it hasn't been too problematic to communicate with them. There are times when it can be quite challenging because either the connection doesn't work or the sound doesn't work, but so far I'm really enjoying it and I feel that I am helping out in some small way those girls achieve whatever goal they have set out for themselves.
In terms of connecting with other World Pulse members, I have been in touch with a member from Namibia who has started a type of Youth Outreach program whose aim is to educate young men and women about gender-based violence, to empower them, and of course to teach them about mutual tolerance and respect. She was seeking out other members who would like to make an exchange with her group. Fortunately, I was able to put her in contact with the coordinator of the center in Afghanistan so that she could ask him whether the young women would like to participate in this exchange. They are having their first session tomorrow and I'm looking forward to hearing all about it! If you happen to know of any other member who would like to make an exchange with this group, please let me know and I'll relay her the message!
Thank you again for your message!

Thanks!

Thanks so much Lea! This is wonderful to know about the level of students you're looking to connect with.

And, that is so great to hear about the Namibia/Afghanistan connection you've helped make! I hope that you can share the news of how the exchange went with the community here. Which Namibian member is this? Maybe the two of you can collaborate on a write-up in Sharing Solutions or for the EVAW campaign?

Looking forward to connecting more...
Best,
