Offer: Universities offering free courses online

Coursera has partnered with several universities to offer free and open online courses. More than one hundred courses will be offered in Fall, 2012 and will typically feature video lectures and student assignments. Participating universities currently include Stanford University; University of Michigan; Princeton; University of Pennsylvania; University of Edinburgh; California Institute of Technology; Duke University; Georgia Institute of Technology; Johns Hopkins University; Rice University; University of California, San Francisco; University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign; University of Washington; University of Virginia; University of Toronto; and École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, which will offer some courses for French speakers. While students will not receive traditional college credit, a certificate of completion may be provided.
Free online courses are also offered through Harvard, the University of California, Berkeley, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology by edX and through Stanford University at Udacity.com. In addition, many video lectures from top universities can be accessed at Academic Earth.
