Offer: From Docs to Dior: Around the World in 100 Women
Hello World Pulsers'!
I've been a member of PulseWire for several years, and I think this is an excellent forum to share some information about the book project I am working on. It is my hope that many of you will contribute in some capacity.
A few years ago, I started an initiative called "Feminists in Fashion", born out of a desire to create a global archive of feminist women leaders whose change-making efforts are contributing to the world in extraordinary ways, and who dispel the myth that feminist women cannot look and feel fabulous while doing the vital work that they do!
These women, diverse in age, nationalities, professions, and accomplishments, share two undefiable threads of commonality: each is effectively bettering the lives of women and girls and each possesses a flare for fashion and an inspired sense of personal style.
Through an ever-expanding compilation of interviews, anecdotes, and photography, Feminists in Fashion focuses in on the work of global women leaders and the culture of couture, making public fashion’s best-kept secret: the vibrant, smart, outspoken, stylish feminist!
Fashion means very different things to very different women. Fashion is not just about what you see in magazine spreads or on the runway. Style is personal; it varies from woman to woman, from culture to culture. It inspires and it is inspiring, like so many incredible, successful, change-making women.
I am scouring the globe far and wide in search of fearless, fabulous, and fashionable feminist leaders who will share their professional journeys and insights into what personal style means to them, and why the term ‘feminism’ does not equate with frumpy.
The book "From Docs to Dior: Around the World in 100 Women", in celebration of the 100th year of International Women's Day. This beautiful coffee table-style book will spotlight, through interviews and photography, 100 women in different regions of the world who are making an impact on communities of women in profound ways.
Whether your work is in education, fashion and design, law, business, medicine and health, policy and research, politics, science, visual and performance art, frontline outreach work, or you are an up-and-coming young feminist leader, I want to hear from you.
Tell me about the impacts of your work, what future contributions you would like to make, and what inspires you!
Or, if you know of a woman (or women!) who you think should be featured in this book, nominate her by completing the application form.
Please note that this application has been designed to help me and my team understand you and your work in greater detail. It is an opportunity for you to showcase not only you, as an individual, but also your work as a leader, with an international audience of readers and stakeholders.
The deadline for submissions is Friday August 31st, 2012. To request an application form, please send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please note that I am also looking for female photographers, worldwide, to showcase their talent via this project.
This is solely a women-driven project in the sense that I want to highlight women's accomplishments, and this includes our photographers. Photographers will donate their time and talent in exchange for being featured in the book. Each selected photographer will have a page dedicated to her, promoting her own story and work.
The book index will include a directory with websites and contact information so that those who pick up a copy can get in touch with our featured women (photographers included).
Photographers are selected in relation to both their current portrait and photojournalism work, as well as their proximity to a woman interviewee (i.e. if a woman is based in London, I would match her with a London-based photographer).
