The Women Peace and Security Network Africa (WIPSEN-Africa), a Pan-African Non-Governmental Organization working to promote women’s strategic participation and leadership in peace and security governance, invites qualified candidates for the following position:

Post Title: Programme Officer, Gender Peace and Security

Duration: Two years (with possibility of extension)

Location: Accra, Ghana (with travels within and outside the continent)

Expected Start Date: 15th July 2012

Closing date: June 25, 2012.

Under the supervision of the Programme Director, the Programme Officer will provide technical advice and support to the WIPSEN-Africa’s programme of work on gender issues in relation to conflict, peace and security. Monitor the implementation of programmes in selected countries and in-country and ensure the timely submission of programme reports.


Maintain and further develop the learning platforms for the projects under the peace & security;
Coordinate the updating of the training materials in the conflict prevention field;
Compile necessary conflict prevention training materials required for country specific workshops;
Assist in conducting training of trainers workshops;
Liaise with partners in other countries to organise programmes for security project;
Monitor project implementation in the selected countries
Supervise the collection of data and implement programmes and activities in-country.
Ensure timely submission of project reports
Provide technical support to WIPSEN-Africa Partners
Facilitate the expansion of partnership and improve the capacities of existing partners
Attend key selected meetings as may be assigned
Liaise with the admin. Officer in developing MOUs and contracts for programme consultants.


A first degree in Social/political Science, conflict studies, international relations or equivalent with a minimum of two years experience in a peace building field or gender, peace and security field.
Computer literate in word, excel, power point.

Required Qualities:

Must be a strong team player
Must possess good leadership skills
Must be able to work under pressure
Must be able to work with people from different backgrounds
Must have the ability to work with little supervision
Possess good inter-personal and communication skills
